Never Again

A cinematic poem inspired by My Oxford Year exploring love,
loss, time and emotional vulnerability.
Unforgettable memories
Still live inside the heart.
Time may heal old wounds,
Yet scars remain like marks of art.
Life keeps moving endlessly forward.
Still, I search for you at night —
In shadows of what once existed,
In fragments of fading light.
I search for you inside the storm
Of all I cannot hide.
We cling to old philosophies,
To truths we carry deep inside.
To the price we pay for honesty.
To the fear of being seen.
Because loving someone fully
Has never felt entirely safe or easy.
My naked soul still trembles
Before all that came before.
Yet rarely are the fearless souls
Untouched by something more.
Stop time.
Look at me.
We never truly know
When a moment becomes memory.
When a simple glance
Turns into the last thing we will ever see.
So much remains uncertain.
So much fades away.
But never what love is.
And never why it stays.
Do not say “never again.”
Life itself remains unknown.
The heart survives on dreams
Long after hope has gone.
We lock our feelings deep inside,
Build walls around our pain.
Convince ourselves we are protected —
Then lose ourselves again.
I wish that I could quiet
All the fears inside your mind.
But some hearts are still searching
For a peace they cannot find.
Inside the world of dreaming
Nothing asks to be undone.
There is only love and longing
And stories never finished before they’re gone.
Lost time never returns
The moment someone leaves.
Yet if you stay, our memories remain
Like warmth beneath the skin we keep.
Tender reminders
Of all we once became.
Because moments only disappear
When we are too afraid to name them.
We wear disguises every day —
Not only on our skin,
But hidden deep within ourselves,
Where loneliness begins.
Sunlight blinds the aching soul.
Yesterday’s tears still shine
Like rivers catching golden light
Before they disappear with time.
Do not say “never again.”
Do not mourn love before it ends.
We never know what waits ahead.
Perhaps we loved too deeply.
Perhaps we stayed unloved too long.
Perhaps our pride survived
Where courage should have won.
But real love —
True love —
Exists beyond the fear of loss.
From the very beginning
We prepare ourselves for endings.
Because somewhere deep inside,
We remain strangers
Trying desperately
To feel understood.
And whether love is real
We often realize too late —
Only when faced
With the possibility
Of losing it forever.
The heart does not feel
The way reason does.
We forget.
Then painfully remember again.
We never know what tomorrow holds.
And what I feel for you
Becomes clearest
In the terrifying silence
Of imagining life without you.
Maybe this is what love truly is:
Risk.
Hope.
Staying anyway.
We only live once.
So do not say “never again”
Simply because leaving feels easier.
It always feels easier —
Until something inside you breaks.
Stay here.
Stay close.
Tell me what you feel
When time suddenly feels fragile.
When every second together
Feels like something slipping through your hands.
Let this moment last a little longer.
Because I still believe
There could be more than fear.
More than distance.
More than goodbye.
I still believe
This could truly be love.
So look at me honestly.
Without excuses.
Without doubt.
Without hiding behind silence.
Be brave enough to feel something real.
Because why should we not
Walk part of this life together?
No one can promise forever.
But love was never about certainty.
It was always about choosing someone
Despite the uncertainty.
And even if we do not know
How long we may walk side by side —
What do we truly lose
By trying?
We only lose
When we refuse to love at all.
So do not tell me
“Never again.”
Because I can already see it
Inside your eyes.
Let us try.
Let us live.
Let us love
Before time steals the chance away.
Because love survives
Even after people leave.
Something always remains.
Beyond space and time.
