Lost in Verona

A poem about falling in love — not with a person, but with a place that feels like home before you ever arrive.

I lost my heart,

long ago,

to a city

held by a river —

a gentle current

that washes the soul clean

of everything

never meant for you.

The streets,

the arena,

the piazza —

they all speak

of the past,

while you forget

your own.

As if you had arrived

in a foreign place

where you were always

meant to be.

They still tell

of an old tragedy —

a love

without a happy ending.

And still,

the letters come.

And still,

they let us hope.

Still,

they let us believe

that love

never runs dry —

that it is

the essence of life itself,

the one thing

that never fades.

And so

I found love —

in love

with a city

where my soul

came home.
