Haunted

A cinematic poem about memory, trauma and a past

that never truly leaves— only learns how to stay hidden.

Inspired by the emotional world of The Immortal Man.

Love is blind.

I just wish

my past

was too.

I am followed.

By everyone

who came before me.

By everything

that has already

been.

Everything that was

in the era

of my heartbeat

has shattered my gentle heart

so violently

that I became

who I am.

I feel too much.

Too deeply.

Too intensely.

And that is why

I feel

almost nothing.

I am broken.

Deep within.

And that is

what makes me

strong.

My morality—

which I may have forgotten,

but never entirely—

still asks for forgiveness

for a yesterday

that can no longer

be forgiven.

Because it is gone.

And yet

it kisses my thoughts

every day.

And love?

Love almost—

just almost—

touched my heart

with something like happiness.

A kind of hope

that a soul like mine

was never meant

to keep.

Because it fades.

It always fades.

For people like me.

I am followed.

By days.

By nights.

By ghosts

that fracture

my sharp mind.

By the ones I loved

who did not stay.

By everything

that once made my heart

feel something—

and no longer does.

By everything

I did.

Unforgivable.

By everything

that broke me.

I am followed

by my own heart.

Broken

by the almost

of a life

that was never meant

to be mine.
