The Sky Remembers

Three poetic fragments inspired by the emotional world of Top Gun and the bond between Maverick, Penny, Goose and Rooster.
Part I - inspired by Maverick & Penny
Old wounds
reveal new tears.
And somehow
I understand your fears.
Every time I leave,
I feel like a thief —
stealing pieces
of your heart
again
and again.
Yet still
you remain.
The safe harbour
inside the storm.
The quiet place
my restless soul
never stopped searching for.
I chased horizons.
You waited.
I followed skies.
You stayed.
And maybe love
was never about remaining still.
Maybe it was always about
finding each other again
after every distance.
You are the one.
And if the tides allow it,
I will return.
Not as the man
who left.
But as the man
who finally learned
what home means.
Part II- inspired by Maverick & Goose
Time carried the years away.
But not you.
Some people leave this world
and still remain
inside every silence.
I still hear your laughter
between memories.
Still search for you
in skies
that already know your name.
We flew beside each other once.
Now I carry the horizon alone.
And every mission after you
felt quieter
— because your voice was gone.
I still wish
you were here.
To laugh again.
To fly again.
To tell me
everything will be alright.
Part III- inspired by Maverick & Rooster
Time changes.
Souls stay the same.
Every time I look at you,
I see a younger version
of the man
I used to be.
And maybe
that is why it hurts.
Because I do not only see you.
I see myself.
And every choice
I wish I could undo.
Some scars
become lessons.
Mine became silence.
And still
I hope
you will fly further
than I ever did.
Some bonds survive time.
Others survive loss.
And some remain in the sky forever.
