See Her

1 min read

A poem about being more than the easiest thing to see.

Don't tell her

she is beautiful

if beauty is all

you have seen.

See her mind.

Her heart.

The quiet fire

behind everything she does.

Don't tell her

what she cannot become.

She might just become it

to prove that she can.

Let her be beautiful.

Let her be brilliant.

Let her be soft.

Let her be strong.

But never reduce her

to the easiest thing

to see.

There is a whole woman

behind the way she looks.

See her.

Closing Note

A woman should never have to become

less beautiful

to be taken seriously.

She should simply be allowed

to be more than beautiful.

And perhaps the most powerful thing

any of us can do

is leave room for women

to define strength

for themselves.
