A Poem About Missing Someone

2 min read

A poem inspired by the song "Never Forget"

from Murder on the Orient Express.

Some songs stay

long after the film has ended.

You leave the cinema,

you go back to your life —

and something keeps playing

somewhere behind your ribs.

This one did that to me.

The Poem

Tell me that my tears

can touch the hands of time

and lead them back

to a moment

when there was still an us.

Would you stay

if I asked you to?

Would you kiss my cheeks,

whisper in my ear,

and put a smile

back on my face?

Even if it's all

in the past,

could you stay with me

in the now —

forever?

I love you.

And they say

love never dies.

You are everything

I ever dared to hope for.

Unforgotten.

Irreplaceable.

Written forever

into my heart

from the moment

our souls touched

here, in this lifetime.

When you showed me

who you really were.

When I saw your heart

and loved your soul.

And now

the laughter of yesterday

is reborn

in every tear of today

that falls down my cheeks

only for you —

like a river

filled with peace,

love,

and memories

that can never

be erased.

We are never alone

as long as we think

of one another,

beyond the limits

of time and space.

All those days,

unforgotten.

Lost,

and yet reborn

in every memory

that returns.

Hold me

with the love

that never fades.

The love that protects me

even in the darkness

of true loneliness.

Because love

is forever.

About The Inspiration

A while ago I watched Kenneth Branagh's Murder on the Orient Express.

Rarely has a film moved me so deeply.

A story where justice and morality, heart and reason begin to blur —

carried by a deep melancholy, and yet, somewhere on the horizon, a small light of hope.

Almost as if the train itself were travelling towards a future

where wounded hearts might finally be allowed to breathe again.

And then there was "Never Forget".

Sung in the beautiful voice of Michelle Pfeiffer,

with music by Patrick Doyle and lyrics by Kenneth Branagh.

It stayed with me long after the credits had rolled.

So I wrote this poem.

For the people we have loved.

For the moments

time cannot give back.

And for the love

that somehow remains.

Some people leave our lives

without ever leaving our hearts.
