Masquerade & Love

Inspired by Bridgerton — Benedict & Sophie ·
A cinematic poem about hidden love and the truth beneath the mask.
A moment.
A breath.
Masquerade kisses love.
An eternity
for my heart.
I cannot turn
my gaze away
from you.
I will never feel
the way I feel
in this moment
again.
Perhaps that is why
we call it love.
So many moments
from my past,
disguised as masquerade —
disenchanted,
yet enchanted.
In your eyes,
they soften
into innocence.
Every glance.
Every word.
With you —
something sacred.
My soul feels lost.
Never before
did my heart know
how to feel
like it does
in these seconds,
these minutes,
these hours
with you.
We play masquerade.
We hide our feelings.
We hesitate.
We break
what we feel.
Yet the heart
recognises truth —
no matter
which mask
we wear.
I have never met
someone
who sees
my entire being.
More than that —
who understands me.
You look straight through me,
beyond every façade,
beyond the roles
we all perform.
And I am no longer
willing to play.
Hearts recognise each other
as if two souls,
after a long journey,
finally meet again.
Nothing compares to you.
You are me
and I am you.
And yet —
we are divided.
By time.
By circumstance.
By a love
not meant to be.
We heal each other —
and still we wound.
One dance,
and the world
will never be the same.
One dance,
and without you
I remain alone.
Everything I ever was
mirrors itself
in your eyes.
And yet —
my heart breaks
under longing.
Because what should be
is not allowed
to be.
I love you.
And I flee
from what we call love.
Because love —
true love —
is the one thing
we cannot hold
without losing ourselves.
And yet
you are
what I have always known
to be true.
You are love.
The one.
You.
